If your spares store is a room full of boxes with no reliable list, you find the gap at the worst moment: during a breakdown, with load to carry and no cover. Every extra day waiting for a part is lost generation, penalty risk and pressure on the units still running.
USP&E Helps You Run a Spares Store That Keeps Units Running
We know the spares store rarely gets attention until the day a unit stops for want of a part. USP&E brings 150+ power projects in 45+ countries and 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers build critical spares lists, set reorder levels and plan gas turbine lead times for diesel stations that are adding new machines. We work under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
A good store is not the biggest store. It holds the right parts in good condition, it knows exactly what is on the shelf, and it reorders before the last one is used.
Know Exactly What Is on Your Shelves
Start with a full count. Record every spare with its part number, description, quantity, shelf location and the units it fits. Diesel stations that grew over many years often hold parts for engines that left long ago, and parts that fit only one unit mixed in with common items.
Link each part to the maintenance plan. When your CMMS knows which parts a planned overhaul needs, the store can check stock weeks ahead instead of on the morning the job starts.
Remove obsolete stock with care. Parts for retired units can be sold or scrapped, but check first that no running unit shares them, because similar engines often use the same filters, seals and sensors.
Set Critical Spares and Reorder Levels
Mark the critical spares: parts whose absence would keep a unit down and that cannot be bought locally within a day or two. For a diesel station these often include injectors, turbochargers or cartridges, governor parts, starter motors, cylinder heads, gaskets, and protection relays.
Set a minimum and a reorder level for each critical part, based on how often you use it and how long resupply really takes. Real lead times matter more than catalogue promises, especially when parts cross borders and clear customs.
Protect what you store. Rubber parts and gaskets age, batteries lose charge, bearings rust in humid rooms and large items such as cylinder heads need preservation. Keep humidity under control, rotate stock by date and inspect long-term items on a schedule.
Add Turbine Spares Before the Turbines Arrive
Your gas turbine generators bring a new class of spares: fuel nozzles, igniters, flame detectors, filters, seals, valves, control cards and the long-lead hot section parts that are normally exchanged rather than stocked. Agree with each supplier which parts you hold on site and which come from exchange pools.
Plan cover for the parts you cannot hold. When a key turbine part has a very long lead time, natural gas engines/stations, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or verified used/new gas turbines can carry load while the repair runs.
Big campuses treat spares the same way. Teams that deliver hyperscale EPC/O&M build the store list before first fire for AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute, and New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA will be supported by a stocked, recorded store from day one rather than by emergency orders.
USP&E Offices Serving Diesel Power Station Buyers
Southern Africa is home base. USP&E’s Executive HQ in Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) owns engineering, procurement and project controls for your diesel station protection upgrade, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) backs it with design and commissioning support.
Equipment and finance for relays, switchgear and gas turbine packages for your diesel bus draw on the wider network: London (162-168 Regent Street) supports structuring and finance, Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) link you to US supply and engineering, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) covers China sourcing and manufacturing.
For diesel station spares reviews, Johannesburg and Cape Town O&M engineers can count your store with the storekeeper, mark critical parts and set reorder levels against real lead times. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. Across 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, USP&E is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
USP&E Track Record for Diesel Power Station
You want proof that USP&E has supplied, maintained and supported power stations where parts and logistics decide availability. These projects show that record.
- USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania.
- Barrick Gold, Loulo-Gounkoto, Mali: USP&E rebuilt more than 80 MW of Caterpillar CM32 engines and added 24 MW of new zero-hour capacity, delivering a 104 MW station with 300% greater reliability and availability than previously recorded at site. Read the case study.
- London Mining, Marampa, Sierra Leone: USP&E engineered, supplied and commissioned a 16 MW HFO power station in five months, two months ahead of schedule and on budget. Read the case study.
HowTo: Run a Diesel Station Spares Store Ready for GT
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share your stock list, maintenance plan and turbine data under NDA. 2. Receive a critical spares list with reorder levels and lead times. 3. Stock, store and reorder under accountable O&M.
- List every spare in the store with its part number, the units it fits and its storage location.
- Mark the critical spares whose absence would keep a unit down, and set minimum and reorder levels for each.
- Check storage conditions: humidity, shelf life, rubber parts, batteries and preservation of large items.
- Add the gas turbine generators spares you will need, with realistic lead times from each supplier.
- Agree cover with natural gas engines/stations or a remanufactured GE Frame 6B for parts with very long lead times.
- Record every issue and return against a work order in the CMMS.

FAQ: Diesel Station Spares Store to GT
Which spares are critical on a diesel station?
USP&E treats a spare as critical when its absence would keep a unit down and you cannot buy it locally within a day or two. Injectors, turbocharger parts, governor parts, starter motors, cylinder heads, gaskets and protection relays are common examples on your station.
How should reorder levels be set?
USP&E sets reorder levels from how often each part is used and how long resupply really takes, including shipping and customs. You should use measured lead times rather than catalogue promises, and review the levels whenever usage or supplier performance changes.
How do you keep stored parts in good condition?
USP&E controls humidity, rotates stock by date and inspects long-term items on a schedule. Your rubber parts and gaskets age, batteries need charging and bearings rust in damp rooms, so storage conditions decide whether a spare still works when you finally need it.
What changes when gas turbines join the station?
USP&E adds turbine spares such as fuel nozzles, igniters, flame detectors, filters, valves and control cards to your store list. Hot section parts are usually exchanged rather than stocked, so you agree exchange routes and cover before the turbines arrive.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support diesel stations?
USP&E runs diesel station O&M from Johannesburg and Cape Town, where store reviews and site visits are quickest for you. London handles contracts and finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville source turbine parts, and Wuxi supports China manufacturing and supply. Each office works from one project file.
Has USP&E delivered power station projects before?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. Public case studies also cover Barrick in Mali, where USP&E rebuilt engines and added zero-hour capacity at a mine power station. You can read each case study for yourself.
Is USP&E a broker for station spares?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that builds and runs power stations with its own engineers, so the team that sets up your spares store also uses it on breakdowns and answers to you for unit availability.
How fast can USP&E respond on a spares review?
USP&E can start reviewing your stock list, maintenance plan and turbine data as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag missing critical parts and long lead items first, then plan a store visit, with timing set by data quality and access.
Keep the Right Parts on Your Shelves
Get the spares store right and a breakdown becomes a planned repair with the part already on site. Get it wrong and the first sign is a unit standing idle while you wait for a courier. USP&E will help you list, stock and reorder with confidence.
