You pay for a bad dispatch order every hour in fuel and wear. If nobody has rewritten the rules for the mixed fleet, you are carrying cost, reliability and outage risk into every shift.
USP&E Helps You Set Diesel and GT Dispatch Order
We know your control room needs clear rules, not a new argument every time demand changes. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers log real fleet behaviour, assign base-load and load-follow roles and write reserve rules for stations where diesels and gas turbines share one bus. We work under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
A good dispatch order is written down, tested through a peak and a trip, and reviewed with real data. It should tell an operator what to start next without a phone call.
Log How Your Fleet Really Runs
Log loading, starts, run hours and fuel burn for every diesel unit across a full demand cycle, including nights, weekends and peak days. You need to know how often each unit starts and how long it runs at low load.
Note which units are the most reliable and which carry known defects. Dispatch should favour healthy machines and protect weak ones until they are repaired.
Measure the demand profile in detail. The shape of your morning ramp and evening peak decides which machines should follow load. Look for large block loads such as pumps or process drives that start at set times, because your dispatch order should have the next unit warm and ready before they arrive.
Assign Base-Load and Load-Follow Roles
Your gas turbine generators usually run best near full load for long periods, so they often take base load while diesels follow demand or stand by. That is a starting point, not a rule. Fuel supply, unit sizes and maintenance plans can change it.
Write minimum-load and start-limit rules for both fleets. Diesels that idle for long periods suffer from wet stacking, and turbines that start and stop often consume life faster.
Set spinning reserve so the largest unit can trip without shedding load. Count that reserve at real output, not nameplate. On hot afternoons, both diesels and turbines can make less than their rating, so your reserve rule should be checked at the worst ambient you see.
Test the Order and Keep It Current
Test the dispatch order through a real peak and a planned trip before you lock it in. Watch frequency, voltage and how fast the next unit picks up load.
Hold cover while settings change. Natural gas engines/stations or a remanufactured GE Frame 6B can fill gaps, and verified used/new gas turbines can join as the fleet grows.
Review dispatch results monthly and update the order in O&M. Larger fleets follow the same logic, as AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute are dispatched against strict uptime targets, and the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA is planned by a hyperscale EPC/O&M team that writes dispatch rules before first fire.
Where USP&E Supports Your Diesel Power Station Project
For your diesel station protection upgrade, your engineering lead sits at USP&E’s Executive HQ in Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston), with Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) adding design, commissioning and project depth. Southern Africa is where USP&E plans, controls and supports frontier power work across the continent.
London (162-168 Regent Street) structures finance and contracts for relays, switchgear and gas turbine packages for your diesel bus, Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) connect you to US equipment supply and US-based engineering, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) follows up China manufacturing and supply chain.
For diesel station dispatch order, Johannesburg and Cape Town operations engineers can sit in your control room through a peak and rewrite start rules with your shift leaders. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. Reach matters more than pins on a map: 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
Proof from Recent Diesel Power Station Projects
You want proof that USP&E has run stations where diesels and turbines had to share one bus and one set of rules. These projects show that record.
- USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania.
- London Mining, Marampa, Sierra Leone: USP&E engineered, supplied and commissioned a 16 MW HFO power station in five months, two months ahead of schedule and on budget. Read the case study.
- Resolute Mining, Syama, Mali: USP&E supplied, installed and operated a 30 MW Caterpillar power station for process plant and process water from 2007 to 2010. Read the case study.
HowTo: Set Diesel and GT Dispatch Order
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share load logs, fuel records and unit histories under NDA. 2. Receive a dispatch order with reserve and start rules. 3. Test the order, then run it under accountable O&M.
- Log loading, starts and fuel burn for every diesel unit across a full demand cycle.
- Define which gas turbine generators carry base load and which diesels follow load or stand by.
- Write minimum-load, start-limit and spinning-reserve rules for both fleets.
- Test the dispatch order through a peak and a trip before you lock it in.
- Use natural gas engines/stations or a remanufactured GE Frame 6B as cover while settings change.
- Review dispatch results monthly and update the order in O&M.

FAQ: Diesel Station Dispatch Order to GT
Why rewrite dispatch order when turbines arrive?
USP&E sees stations keep old diesel habits after gas turbine generators arrive, leaving turbines at poor part load and diesels cycling too often. Your dispatch order should give each fleet a clear role. A rewritten order cuts fuel, wear and the risk of shedding load.
Should turbines always take base load?
USP&E often places turbines on base load because they run best near full output for long periods. You still check fuel supply, unit sizes and maintenance plans first. The right order depends on your site, so it is written from your data, not a template.
How much spinning reserve does a mixed station need?
USP&E sets spinning reserve so your largest running unit can trip without shedding load, counted at real output. You test that reserve through a planned trip. Reserve on paper that is not available in practice is how stations lose load at peak.
What minimum-load rules should diesels follow?
USP&E writes minimum-load and run-time rules that limit long idling, which causes wet stacking and carbon build-up in diesels. You also limit needless turbine starts. Clear rules protect both fleets and keep your operators from guessing during the night shift.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support this work?
USP&E anchors dispatch planning work in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where operations and utilities engineers sit close to your station. London structures contracts and finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville reach US equipment supply, and Wuxi supports China supply chain and manufacturing. Every office works from the same project file.
Has USP&E delivered power projects like this before?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. Public case studies also cover Barrick, Resolute and Kinross, where accountable EPC and O&M kept industrial power online. You can read each case study and judge the evidence yourself.
Is USP&E a broker for this equipment?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that engineers, supplies, builds, commissions and operates power plants with its own engineers and project managers, so the team that writes your dispatch order stays accountable when demand peaks. You deal with one accountable team from first review to O&M.
How fast can USP&E respond on this topic?
USP&E can start reviewing your load logs, fuel records and unit histories as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag reserve gaps first, then issue the full dispatch order, with timing set by data quality and site access for your team.
Run Diesels and Turbines in the Right Order
Get dispatch right and your station saves fuel, protects machines and rides through a trip. Get it wrong and the first sign is shed load at peak. USP&E will help you log, assign and test with confidence.
