Three-Phase Power Station help to turn on more lights in Guinea

The three-phase power station projects named Tombo 1, Tombo 2, and Kipe, will soon provide more power to Conakry, the capital and the largest city in Guinea.

Full-service power plant solution provider USP&E has teamed up with Brazilian conglomerate Asperbras to provide 100 mega watts of power in what is known as Africa’s administrative, communications and economic centre. The power will be dispersed over three locations.

“There was an existing plant there that’s being razed,” says Richard Eder, Construction & Service Project Manager at USP&E, who is responsible for gathering material for the project.

Right now, the company is in the first phase of the project, which involves engineering, procurement and construction. “We’re doing the preliminary work now,” Eder says. Chief Financial Officer Scott Johnson says that the three-phase power station locations must be complete by the end of the year. Tombo 1 is projected to reach completion by June 20th. Tombo 2 will be done in either September or October and Kipe will be finished by December 31st.

Some parts of the city did have a form of power, while other parts had no form of power.

“As I understand it there were parts of the city where they did not have power and in the areas where they did, it was not very reliable,” says Johnson. “So this equipment is to go in and supplement what they already have to provide electricity where there was none and to stabilize the power where there already is.”

In addition to providing full-service power plants, USP&E also supplies diesel and HFO both used and new  powered generators. The company’s mission is to deliver the most cost effective and efficient Power Station Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations and Maintenance solutions in the strategic growth country marketplace.
